Yu Zhou (CV)
I am Yu Zhou, a Research Associate from Prof. Nina Buchmann's group and Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Systems Science at ETH Zurich. My current research project is CERES: Impacts of Air Pollution and Climate Extremes on the Resilience of European Forests.
As a global change ecologist, I study how climate change and anthropogenic activities alter ecosystem structure and function, and conversely, how ecosystem dynamics influence climate through nature-based climate solutions. My work is interdisciplinary, integrating ecophysiology, terrestrial biogeochemistry, and geography. It combines time-series field observations, remote sensing, process-based modeling, and machine learning/artificial intelligence (ML/AI) techniques to gain a mechanistic understanding of the ecophysiological processes governing terrestrial carbon cycling.
I was previously a Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellow from Prof. Yiqi Luo's ECOLAB at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), Cornell University.
I got my Ph.D. at Clark University in the Graduate School of Geography (2021), supervised by Prof. Christopher A. Williams, and an M.S. at the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (CAS) in Cartography & GIS (2012), supervised by Prof. Li Zhang.

Yuqi Dong (CV)
Yuqi Dong is a Ph.D. candidate in Cartography and Geographic Information Systems at the Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Her research focuses on the responses of vegetation phenology and productivity to climate change in global drylands. I am co-supervising her with Prof. Li Zhang from 2021.
Before joining Prof. Zhang's group, she received B.E. in Surveying and Mapping Engineering from China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing).
